This image of the Sun taken 22 December 2003 certainly does look a
lot like Santa with a bushy mustache. With just a little contrast
added to the mouth area, what you are seeing are active regions and
magnetic loops on the Sun that seem have arranged themselves into a
Santa-like face. So, we decided to take this opportunity to make the
most of it and wish everyone a happy holiday season. Thanks to
everyone for their interest in and support for the SOHO mission and
our Weekly Pick. The image was taken in extreme ultraviolet light by

SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.
