Some people who glance at the SOHO images of the Sun and its surrounding areas are likely to spot bright objects sliding by from right to left or left to right and wonder what they are. The objects usually have a bright center and horizontal lines sticking out on the left and right. Well, these are the planets of our solar system whose brightness usually overwhelms our sensitive C3 imager and causes the light to spread out to the sides. This week we have one of these objects crawling into view (from the left) and it is Jupiter. It will pass across our field of view until Nov. 2, 2005. Previous Picks of the Week

SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.
