The video clip of 24 hours of activity and the still (both in partial
close-up) show at least two active regions in ultraviolet light
(August 9, 2005) that are making clear magnetic connection in
profile. Active Regions, like magnets, have north and south polarity.
Sometimes a pole of one active region reaches out and connects with
the opposite pole of another active region. There is one example of
this here. Basically we are observing ions in extreme UV light as
they spiral along magnetic field lines. Such connecting and
reconnecting occurs constantly on the Sun at all scales of size. It
should be noted that most of the magnetic field is invisible, simply
because there's insufficient matter at any temperature we can observe
entrained in it.
