destretch note: gaussian smoothing for the destretch offsets can dilute a
linear trend (e.g., a flow) for short runs. It may be best to put back
the linear trend removal before smoothing. A test with random data of
length 20 shows about one third of a trend is removed with a fwhm of 10.
The ghipass result contains part of the missing trend but not all!

finally wrote gsmooth in C to replace slow ANA subroutine
time comparison for a stretch grid calculation (most of the time
was spent in gsmooth):

internal subr	56.39 s
gsmooth.ana	1918 s

which is 34 times faster
