This is now done by the FOT and by a cronjob run by George. FOT put the plan onto zeus.

Automation NRT/MDI activity notifications

Background

The SOCs receive from the FOT the so-called activity plan(s) typically once per workday or per weekend. The activity plans are files (one per pass) currently e-mailed by the FOT to the SOCs. The received file needs to be copied to mcsoc:/Users/socfiles/dsn/nrt-temp/actplans and possible suffix removed. An activity plan file name is of the form activity_plan_D24_93272_v002 (the file may also include a .txt suffix), where (in this example) D24 is the antenna used in the pass, 9 is the year (2009 in this case), 372 is the Day-of-Year (DOY). The activity plan includes information on for instance the NRT times and MDI activities. Hence the relevant information is extracted from the activity plan files, reformatted and disseminated to the instrument teams.

Description of the process implementation

The shell (ksh) script getsend_nrt does the extraction, reformatting and dissemination process. The script is run under account dsn@mcsoc.nascom.nasa.gov once per hour under cron. The shell script is located in mcsoc:/Users/dsn/bin and the processing directory in mcsoc:/Users/dsn/nrt. The produced file is e-mailed to select instrument teams and placed on the SOHO web site at URL http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/soc/nighttime_nrt.txt. A link to the file is provided on the SOHO operations page. The e-mailing is done with another shell script (sohoemaildistrib).

Changing/updating the distribution list

The list of recipients is located in a text file in /Users/dsn/nrt/soho-nrt-mailing-list.txt or in a location assigned to variable EMAILDISTRIBFILE in shell script getsend_nrt. The list is modified by editing this file.
