JOP142 Filament Motion Observations with Sac Peak, TRACE, and SOHO Received: 26 March 2001 K.S. Balasubramaniam T.A. Kucera Project Description Using simultaneous observations from the Dunn Solar Telescope, SOHO and TRACE instruments we plan to make systematic measurements of velocity fields, magnetic fields, and structure of prominences. Erupting filaments are related to coronal mass ejections. The vertical structure of filaments, their supporting magnetic fields and their dynamics play a role in how filaments evolve and erupt. Our goal here is to understand the high angular resolution physical characteristics of filaments and their dynamics and to study the role these characteristics in the filament evolution, expansion and eruption process. Target: Filament (either active or quiescent) on solar disk. Dates: Sac Peak observations will be June 15 - 21, 2001. Times: Sac Peak observations would be 13:00-24:00 UT (7:00 - 18:00 US CDT), however prime observing time is likely to be in the morning, so 13:00-18:00 UT Sac Peak Dunn Solar Telescope: We will make Doppler maps in in H-alpha, MgI 5172, CaI 6122, FeI 6302, with a 120-160" field of view and a resolution 0.18" with good seeing. TRACE: 30s cadence observations at 171 A and possible flare response program if we are looking in an area where that might be useful. CDS: Raster observations at a range of temperature lines. 1 run of FILOBS2/v59 (which lasts about 70 min) and then as many runs as is reasonable of FILOBS1 - probably v4, which takes about 22 min/raster over 102x240", but we may want to write another version of this with a slightly larger field of view. MDI: If possible we would like high cadence magnetogram data, using the high res field of view if target is in the right place SUMER: If on and target in appropriate location, we would be interested in using SUMER, but it is not worth having the instrument on just for this campaign because of targeting difficulties. In order to best remove the effect of detector distortion from the Doppler shift measurements, the SUMER programs cycle through a series of grating settings - pointing both at the filament and 120" to the south. 1859 KUC NS_SHFTA1 - Observes in 13 wavebands for Detector A. (2h49m12s) Was used in campaign 5620. A Detector B version exists, but has not been run. 1860 KUC HEI_RAS_A_NP - He I context raster (16m2s) (If allowed)
