WEEKLY MEETING MINUTES Week 48, Nov. 29 - Dec. 5, 1999 1. Announcements ---------------- * Signup sheet on EOF door for Thursday's SOHO Party (4th anniversary of launch) 2. Operations Constraints ------------------------- * Tuesday: 7-hour gap in contact before we pick up DSS-16 at 14:15 UT. * Friday: Change from Submode 6 to Submode 5 at ~ 17:00 UT. * Sunday: DSS-27 as downlink only, 17:45-18:45 UT 3. Coordinated Observations --------------------------- The following coordinated operations are taking place next week: M Nov 29 (W48) T Nov 30 W Dec 01 T Dec 02 SOHO party, 4th anniversary of launch F Dec 03 Switch to Submode #5 at ~ 17:00 TBC SUMER open door, about 1 hr NRT S Dec 04 S Dec 05 Other activities for Week 48: * TRACE: Continuous 4-panel mosaic East limb study (22 Nov - 6 Dec) * November 29 - December 12, 1999 JOP112: Coordinated SOHO-Ulysses Elemental Abundance Study UVCS/CDS/SUMER/LASCO/Ulysses JOP102: Structure of Coronal Holes with Plumes CDS/MDI/SUMER/EIT/Ulysses SUMER,CDS will plan from MEDOC for their participation Contact: G. Poletto (EOF) Submodes: Monday 00:00 UT -- Friday 17:00 UT --> Submode 6 Friday 17:00 UT -- Sunday 24:00 UT --> Submode 5 Planners for Week 48: CDS -- B. Bromage/T. Kucera(EOF) MDI -- Sarah Gregory EIT -- Barbara Thompson SUMER -- Philippe Lemaire (MEDOC) LASCO -- Ops Team UVCS -- G. Poletto (EOF)/S. Suess TRACE -- Eclipse Season Relevant Notes -------------- JOP112: Ulysses is at -40 degrees latitude at the West limb. On December 8, there will be an Sun-SOHO-Ulysses quadrature, a situation which occurs every 6 months and provides the best opportunity for coordinated SOHO Ulysses observations. UVCS plans to measure elemental abundances of oxygen, magnesium, silicon, iron, and sulphur. UVCS will scan through three mirror positions (1 per day). LASCO will do synoptics and if not doing C1 observations, will do extra C2 pB. SUMER will observe the same lines as UVCS. CDS also plans to participate. JOP102: CDS is hoping for an equitorial coronal hole target for this JOP. If only a polar coronal hole happens, they will use that for the target. MDI can only supply high cadence magnetograms if observations are scheduled during MDI high rate times. Otherwise MDI can provide synoptic magnetograms. Focusing Cone: CDS's Bill Thompson received email about possibly doing a focusing cone observation on December 5-6. No other instrument planners have received information on this, if there is a desire for support... requests should be made to planners quickly. CDS: In addition to JOPs, also plan loops on the limb, and sunspot studies. MDI: Monthly calibrations next week, full disk observations to support JOP102.
