Subject: Weekly Meeting Minutes WEEKLY MEETING MINUTES for August 11-17 1. Announcements ------------------ None. 2. Operations Constraints --------------------------- - DSN schedule: MDI continuous starts on Sunday, August 10 at 12:45 UT until Thursday, August 14 at 03:50 UT. Long contacts (Thursday - Sunday), start a bit later at ~ 15:20/15:50 UT, and end at ~ 3:50 UT or later. - SVM activities planned for next week: Due to the MDI continuous, there will not be as much ranging data obtained in order to minimize loss of VC2/3 data during this continuous contact period. There will be ranging on one of the passes during the continuous: Wednesday Aug 13th, DSS-61 from 04:45 - 16:15 UT. However, when the SSR dump is turned on briefly during this ranging activity, the SSR will not be dumped until after the continuous contact is over (again to minimize loss of VC2/3). The SSR will be dumped the next day. - Submode Switches: SUMER will not operate over the August 16 and 17 weekend. Therefore, on Friday of next week (15 Aug) a switch to submode 6 will occur. Times to switch in and out of submode 6 will be determined next week. 3. Coordinated operations for next week ---------------------------------------- The following coordinated operations are planned for next week: M Aug 11 (W33) MDI continuous, EIT/MDI high cadence collaboration (#1840), EOF: Joe Gurman Polar Limb Features, EIT/Sac Peak-VTT/Yohkoh-SXT (#1820), 14:00-17:00 UT, Sac Peak: Serge Koutchmy, EOF: Joe Gurman Intercal012 (#1780), SEM Rocket Underflight (CALSO-3) Launch from WSMR at 18:20 UT, POC: Don McMullin CALSO-3/CDS/SUMER/EIT/SEM/UARS-SUSIM/SEH-2/STS-85 T Aug 12 MDI continuous, EIT/MDI high cadence collaboration (#1840), EOF: Joe Gurman Polar Limb Features, EIT/Sac Peak-VTT/Yohkoh-SXT (#1820), 14:00-17:00 UT, Sac Peak: Serge Koutchmy, EOF: Joe Gurman Solar EUV Hitchhiker Support (#1870), EIT/SEH-2 16:57 to 17:25 UT, EOF: Joe Gurman JOP013 (#1850), Temporal Variability in the Solar Transition Region, SUMER/CDS/MDI, EOF: Oivino Wikstol, 7:00-12:00 UT W Aug 13 MDI continuous, EIT/MDI high cadence collaboration (#1840), EOF: Joe Gurman Polar Limb Features, EIT/Sac Peak-VTT/Yohkoh-SXT (#1820), 14:00-17:00 UT, Sac Peak: Serge Koutchmy, EOF: Joe Gurman Solar EUV Hitchhiker Support (#1870), EIT/SEH-2 15:35 to 16:01 UT, EOF: Joe Gurman JOP013 (#1850) , Temporal Variability in the Solar Transition Region, SUMER/CDS/MDI, EOF: Oivino Wikstol, 7:00-12:00 UT North Polar Coronal Hole Observations (#1860), CDS/SUMER, 12:00-23:00 UT, EOF: Andrzej Fludra T Aug 14 MDI continuous ends at 03:50 UT, EIT/MDI high cadence collaboration (#1840), EOF: Joe Gurman Polar Limb Features, EIT/Sac Peak-VTT/Yohkoh-SXT (#1820), 14:00-17:00 UT, Sac Peak: Serge Koutchmy, EOF: Joe Gurman F Aug 15 Polar Limb Features, EIT/Sac Peak-VTT/Yohkoh-SXT (#1820), 14:00-17:00 UT, Sac Peak: Serge Koutchmy, EOF: Joe Gurman S Aug 16 Comet Tabur (#1830), LASCO/UVCS, magn. 5.7, < 10 Solar radii Polar Limb Features, EIT/Sac Peak-VTT/Yohkoh-SXT (#1820), 14:00-17:00 UT, Sac Peak: Serge Koutchmy, EOF: Joe Gurman Solar EUV Hitchhiker Support (#1870), EIT/SEH-2 21:21 to 22:06 UT, EOF: Joe Gurman S Aug 17 Comet Tabur (#1830), LASCO/UVCS Polar Limb Features, EIT/Sac Peak-VTT/Yohkoh-SXT (#1820), 14:00-17:00 UT, Sac Peak: Serge Koutchmy, EOF: Joe Gurman Other Activities for Week 33: Planners for Week 33: SOL - Leonard Strachan CDS - Andrzej Fludra SUMER - Detlef Gigas UVCS - Leonard Strachan EIT - Joe Gurman MDI - Joe Covington LASCO - Mike Andrews Additional notes: ------------------ * Intercal012 -- The Shuttle launched successfully yesterday and the rocket launch from White Sands is still scheduled for 18:20 UT. Updates/launch status information will be distributed to the EOF via voice loops (SCAMA 135) starting 4 hours prior to launch. * SEH-2 / EIT -- in addition to the ICAL012 launch, EIT is also providing additional support for STS95 SEH-2 (Solar EUV Hitchhiker) during the following times: Tuesday: 16:57 to 17:25 UT Wednesday: 15:35 to 16:01 UT Saturday: 21:21 to 22:06 UT * EIT/MDI high cadence collaboration -- during MDI continuous contact EIT will take a 195 image, followed by a 195 A full resolution image equivalent in size and position to the MDI high resolution FOV. Both data products will be taken at a 17 minute cadence. (After the continuous collaboration is finished, EIT will also perform some polar plume studies which are penciled in at 13:30 - 16:30 UT) * UVCS will perform a coronal heating study between 4-8 solar radii. Plan is to spend 3 days at 8 solar radii, 2 days at 6 solar radii, and 1 day at 4 solar radii. When UVCS has determined a pointing for this study, they will inform LASCO. LASCO was interested in perhaps supporting this study with extra C2 and C3 images. Also planned are Comet Tabur observations later in the week for both UVCS ans LASCO. * MDI will be in continuous contact Monday - Thursday doing helioseismology and supplying high resolution magnetograms. Thursday - Friday will also be devoted to helioseismology. After Friday, MDI may be open to support campaigns. * CDS, in addition to campaign/jop support, may try some sunspot observations on Monday and Tuesday. If a suitable target does not appear, they may fall back on off-limb studies.
