WEEKLY MEETING MINUTES for July 7 - 13 1. Announcements ------------------ There are a few announcements concerning future spacecraft activites that people should be aware of which have been added to the calendar of coordinated observations on the WWW. These announcements are long, but important so please read carefully: A) August 31 - September 4 -- SVM Activities ---------------------------------------------- A request by LASCO/EIT came in on June 30 to have a dwell at the +45 degree position for 1 hour (instead of 15 minutes). This message was sent to SWT and after conversations/e-mails between Vicente Domingo and CDS and SUMER teams. This action was agreed to. People are once again reminded that 16 hours is the total duration of the roll ... NOT the dwell time spent at +90 degrees. The FOT allocates 3 hours (1.5 hours at the beginning and end) for spacecraft activities leaving ~13 hours of observation/dwell time. A review of the days these activities are planned are as follows: AUG 31: Gyro Calibration SEP 01: Momentum Management for Roll Maneuver (which is Monday, Labor Day Holiday in USA) SEP 03: Roll Maneuver for SWAN and SUMER to delta of +90 - 16 hour duration of roll. Maximum amount dictated by constraint defined by Normal Mode pointing transitions. ~ 13 hours observing time (1 hour at +45 delta and ~12 hours at +90 delta) ~ 3 hours FOT time to perform SVM activities - Roll from nominal to a delta of +45, dwell for 1 hour - Roll from delta +45 to +90 and dwell at +90 for the remaining observing time (~ 12 hours +/- any additional depending on speed of FOT activities). - MDI high rate data VC2/VC3 requested during this time SEP 04: RW 4 Maintenance, Momentum Management, Station Keeping B) December 29 - 30 (or 27-28): SVM Activities before MDI Continuous --------------------------------------------------------------------- January 3, 1998 begins another long continuous contact period for MDI. Therefore, in order not to have any spacecraft activities during the MDI continuous the following activites are planned prior to that date: December 29 - Gyro Calibrations December 30 - Reaction Wheel 4 Maintenance, Momentum Management, Station Keeping January 3, 1998 - Beginning of MDI Continuous Contact Note, December 29 and 30 are currently planned dates. These may change to December 27-28, depending on the DSN schedule. People are being informed of these dates now since they occur during the major holiday season between Christmas and New Years. C) Next opportunity for a S/C roll is in May, 1998. --------------------------------------------------- The FOT has informed the Project Scientist team that the next opportunity for a S/C roll will be in May of 1998. This will be when the next time another momentum management, station keeping, etc. is expected to be needed. 2. Operations Constraints for next week. ------------------------------------------ Continuous contact continues until Monday, July 14 at 04:20 UT. No unusual SVM Reserved activities. No downlink only stations. 3. MDI focus on helioseismology; MDI will provide full disk magnetogram every 96 minutes, but no other campaign support Planners for Week 28: SOL - Helen Mason CDS - Helen Mason SUMER - Terry Kucera UVCS - Martin Huber EIT - Jeff Newmark MDI - Craig DeForest LASCO - George Simnett NOTES: ----- On Saturday and Sunday there are two conflicting CDS studies: * CDS/VLA Macro Spicule Observations, 14:00-22:30 UT, POC: ? * Limb Active Region Campaign (#1630), Sac Peak/CDS 17 -22 UT, EOF: Helen Mason (July 10)/Bill Thompson(July 12-17) Clarification will have to be obtained from the CDS PI concerning these activities. In particular, more information is desired concerning the CDS/VLA Macro Spicule Observations (July 12 -14). EIT expressed some interest in this but more information is needed. Active Region Diagnostics -- study will be performed by CDS, EIT and Yohkoh with participation by SUMER when the active region can be seen by them (probably Thursday and Friday). (No CDS participation on Friday). Coronal Electron Temperature (#1625) -- UVCS/CDS/SUMER/LASCO/EIT, Silvano Fineshei will coordinate this study. UVCS to get electron temperatures in Lyman-alpha at 2.5-2.7 solar radii. On Friday, CDS is not available for joint observing. They are performing an off-limb coronal study (A. Fludra), 8 - 24 UT. UVCS may also be interested in pointing on the same limb that CDS will be looking at. LASCO will getting some high cadence, partial field-of-view C2 images to study slow solar winds at low latitudes. MDI requested extra VC2 on Monday and Tuesday of next week. They will be doing a partial flat-field upload and will use the extra VC2 to check the results.
