SOHO WEEKLY PLANNING MEETING MINUTES Week 32, 05 August - 12 August, 1996 Chair: L. Allen Minutes: E. Larduinat 1. ANNOUNCEMENTS Piet is organizing an extensive social/morale lifting program for the SoHO teams. He will e-mail more details in a separate message. 2. MONTHLY SCHEDULE UPDATE The following modifications have been done to monthly schedule (see Web pages): * JOP001 An additional run of phase 1 is planned for August 15-18, or possibly August 23 after the MDI continuous contact . For MDI, it will be run as part of the collaboration with La Palma. (See section 4 below for this week's JOP001 information) * MDI/La Palma Collaboration. Piet will contact La Palma to arrange for the ftp transfer of images. * JOP041 The active region will be picked the previous day from an MDI magnetogram. The first run will be done on August 14 during NRT. Stein Vidar is the local coordinator. CDS and EIT will support. MDI must have a high resolution field of view of the active region. MDI and SUMER must finalize their plans for participation before the next weekly meeting. * JOP048 Will be run on August 23 (Limb) and on August 30 (Sun center). Local coordinator: Craig Deforest. * The Alpha Leo and Rho Leo star observations will be used for intercalibrations. Participating instruments UVCS and SUMER. Local coordinator: Joe Michels. 3. OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS Commanding test. The purpose is 1) to identify the cause of commanding anomalies noticed during heavy instrument commanding and 2) to optimize the bit bias setting to minimize the occurence of these errors. The FOT has proposed to conduct that test and MDI has offered to support it. Note that the purpose of the test is to correct a problem that mainly affects the instruments and it could be cancelled if the intrumenters desire to do so. It was decided to proceed with the test on August 08 between 21:00 and 04:00 UT. There won't be NRT during that time. The test will start with a bit bias of 5000 that will be reduced by 1000 for each iteration of the test. MDI will be ready to send one half hour of NRT commands (about 600 commands) and approximately 1200 BCK commands (full OBDH blocks) for each bit bias setting. 4. COORDINATED OPERATIONS The following activities are planned for next week, M Aug 5 T Aug 6 Yohkoh/SOHO: AR on West Limb, 6:00 - 9:00 UT Local coordinator: Bob Bentley (Contacts: Yohkoh - Louise Harra, CDS - Richard Harrison) W Aug 7 JOP001 -- EIT/MDI 15:00 to 00:00 UT EOF coordinator: J. Gurman Yohkoh/SOHO: AR on West Limb, 6:00 - 9:00 UT T Aug 8 JOP001 -- EIT/MDI 15:00 to 17:00 UT i EOF coordinator: J. Gurman Yohkoh/SOHO: AR on West Limb, 6:00 - 9:00 UT F Aug 9 Commanding Test - 7 hours reserved for FOT 21:00 to 04:00 UT (next day) S Aug 10 JOP044 -- Begin of Global Sun Month, Sarah Gibson S Aug 11 * JOP001 An additional run of phase 1 is planned for August 15-18, or possibly August 23 after the MDI continuous contact . For MDI, it will be run as part of the collaboration with La Palma. The latest run times during week 32 are: Wednesday August 07 from 15:00 to 00:00 Thursday August 08 from 15:00 to 17:00 * Yohkoh/SOHO - Active region No change in the planned schedule. Bob Bentley is the local coordinator. Note: After the meeting, Joe Gurman informed us that EIT will be doing a bake-out/CCD tests on Aug 5-6. EIT will not be available for coordinated observations on these days. * JOP044 Will start on August 10 as planned. Sarah Gibson and Douglas Biesecker will coordinate. SUMER and CDS need special observations that will be defined on a weekly basis. Note that MDI will be in dynamics mode during the continuous contact. It will be possible to work around the SUMER/Tenerife campain. Other participants will support with their synoptic studies. 5/6. AOB For remote instrumenters who may need a SOC at odd hours: From Aug 2-10 and Aug 18-Sept 1, call Laura or Piet for problems/questions. Eliane on vacation. From Aug 10 to 17, call Laura for problems/questions. Piet and Eliane both will be unavailable for these dates.
