SOHO WEEKLY PLANNING MEETING For Week 19, May 6-12, 1996 Friday May 3, 11:30 am at EOF MINUTES: Chair: Piet Martens Minutes: Laura Allen and Eliane Larduinat 1. ANNOUNCEMENTS Add to schedule: on June 1st there will be 6 hours of SVM Reserved time for a spacecraft memory dump. Will have telemetry but no commanding. Exact time tbd. 2. MONTHLY SCHEDULE UPDATE See SOHO Web pages under /operations/schedule/monthly.txt for proposed collaborations during 2 months DSN continuous. Also note, that there is a button on the SOHO Web Pages ("Get Involved") whereby other observers that wish to collaborate with SOHO can find information. In general, they should write a description of the campaign they are proposing in a format similar to our JOP formats. Markus Aschwanden gave a presentation on a proposed VLA, OVRO, KPNO, Yohkoh, SOHO collaboration on May 23, 24, and 26. Proposal was to map the magnetic fields from sunspots with height. Additionally obtaining temperature variations with height. The VLA will be in the C/D configuration and the observing times would be ~ 14 - 24 UT for these 3 days. There was a request for participation from SUMER, CDS and EIT and the following coordinators volunteered: Stuart Jordan (SUMER), Paal Brekke (CDS), and Barbara Thompson (EIT). It was also noted that JOP018, which is around this time frame is also a sunspot observation, and is done in collaboration with Sac Peak/VIT -- the whole program could be combined to a large collaborative program. 3. OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS DSN Schedule (see SOHO Web pages). We are sharing a DSN antenna at Goldstone with ISO, which has priority. Because of ISO's orbit, they need this antenna during our daylight hours at this time of year. By August at the latest a new 34-meter which will be available; the FOT is already testing this antenna in real time. This may resolve the problem of inconvient SOHO contact times. For those antennas which were originally listed as downlink only during the 2 months continuous, we have requested uplink time during scheduled collaborations (see calendar). 4. COORDINATED OPERATIONS JOPs and Intercalibrations: M May 6 None. T May 7 Intercal 001; coordinator: Udo Schuehle (SUMER) JOP015; coordinator: Olav Kjeldseth-Moe (CDS) W May 8 Intercal 002 phase 1; coordinator: Joe Gurman T May 9 JOP015; coordinator: Olav Kjeldseth-Moe (CDS) F May 10 Intercal 002 phase 2; coordinator: Andrzej Fludra (CDS) JOP002 (test); coordinator: Phillipe Lemaire (SUMER) JOP013; coordinator: Olav Kjeldseth-Moe (CDS) S May 11 None. S May 12 None. JOP015, 002, and 013 after start NRT. Intercal 001 and 002 will be run during non-contact time. .KAP files representing the above schedule will be generated. The instrument teams are expected to submit updated .IAP files thereafter. 5. WEEKLY SCIENCE TIMELINE MDI will need extra VC2 time several times next week, and will submit a schedule to FOT and SOC for mutual convenience. EIT has requested 1/2 hour of high telemetry rate d(submode 2) on Monday and Wednesday of next week for tests. This would occur during NRT about 1 hour after the NRT begins. SUMER and CDS agreed. No large command uploads are planned for next week. END-OF-MINUTES
