SOHO WEEKLY PLANNING MEETING For Week 18, April 29 - May 5, 1996 Friday April 26, 10:30 am at EOF Meeting Minutes: ---------------- Chair: Piet Martens Minutes: Laura Allen and Eliane Larduinat 1. ANNOUNCEMENTS None 2. MONTHLY SCHEDULE UPDATE See the Web for several new collaborations scheduled for June Vincente Domingo has sent out a Fax to the PI's and Piet Martens will send a memo to the SPWG out to request that collaborators in Campaigns/JOPs/Collaborations supply desired observing times so that observations can be correlated well with the DSN schedule. It is best to know observing times at least 3 WEEKS in advance so that desired DSN schedules can be negotiated if necessary. Even during the 2 months continuous some of the antennas used are downlink ONLY, so a change would be needed for campaigns in that time frame Art Poland pointed out that people should look at the Web which has the JOPs and Intercals, etc.. for the next month or more already planned out in the timeline. 3. OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS - Long contacts start at 4 to 5 pm local time for the whole week - No out of the ordinary SVM reserved time 4. COORDINATED OPERATIONS -JOPs: It was decided to delay the test run of JOP002 by a week. SUMER said that their test version of JOP002 will not run yet. LASCO will be observing the comet from May 1 - 6. The C3 coronagraph will be used mainly for this, and it is important to note that synoptic observations in the C1 and C2 will be reduced somewhat due to the comet observations. ICAL002 will also be delayed by at least a week. For the coronal hole and prominence JOPs, we will pick a target (either a coronal hole or prominence depending on the Sun) at the daily meeting for observation on that day. Agreed JOP schedule: JOP012: 5/1, start at 07:00, duration 4 hours, local coordinator: Terry Kucera JOP012: 5/3, start at 07:00, duration 4 hours, " " JOP013, 4/30, start at 20:30, duration 3.5 hours, local coordinator: Olav Kjeldseth-Moe JOP015, 5/2, start at 20:30, duration 3 hours, local coordinator: Olav Kjeldseth-Moe JOP035, 4/29, start at 20:15, duration 4 hours, local coordinator: Dominique Zarro - Collaborations: Observations of the comet will be made by SWAN, LASCO, and UVCS. UVCS will contact SWAN in regards to monitoring the comet's brightness. UVCS will determine the strength of the Argon 1066 Angstrom doublet. They noted that EUVE could detect Neon but not Argon. UVCS also noted that Wednesday during the short NRT period (12:40 - 15:40), they would like as much NRT as possible to off-point for the comet observations. 5. WEEKLY SCIENCE TIMELINE - IAP's to be updated conform JOP schedule - VC2/VC3 Transitions: MDI will request 1 hour per day of VC2 next week and will probably do some uploading (not very large) on Tuesday of next week. - Use of Flag: Discussion regarding use of instrument FLAGs. Everyone agreed that Rock Bush's memo on the subject covered this very well. However, action is needed on the part of the individual teams to interpret the numbers/data from the test and modify their software. Some people suggested another test, but others wanted more time to get adjusted and fix other software problems with their instruments. This item was put on hold and will be brought up again in a few weeks time. - Timing of Large CMD Uploads: No such plans 6. AOB CMS has requested the EOF/ECS to schedule some background queue testing time with them next week. They are testing a new release of CMS software. The testing will be done outside DSN contacts and commands will be send to a simulator. MDI can send "dummy" commands to the spacecraft if this is necessary for the testing. Maryse discussed VIRGO time-tagged commands. Currently, the FOT is pausing the NRT link when VIRGO time-tagged commands are executing. However, it is not thought that the NRT commanding is the problem but the background queue commanding instead. She suggested that rather than disabling NRT, the background queue should be disabled during VIRGO time-tagged commands. This would lessen the impact on other instrument teams. It was also said the the background queue should be disabled by DEFAULT and enabled per EOF/ECS operator instruction. END-OF-MINUTES
