MINUTES OF THE SOHO WEEKLY PLANNING MEETING ------------------------------------------- For Week 15, April 8-14 Friday April 5, 10:30 am at EOF Chair: Piet Martens Notes: Laura Allen and Piet Martens ACTION ITEMS: 15.1 On helioseismology experiments to react to draft timeline for roll off-set in May (see calendar) before next SPWG 15.2 Experiments to submit updates IAPs a.s.a.p. to reflect agreed times for XBP campaigns and ICALS 001 and 009 15.3 On SOC to put experiment anomaly reporting after commissioning on SPWG agenda 15.4 On SOC to put MATRA request for MDI jitter test during each momentum management on SPWG agenda 1. Announcements: From the SOHO home page, a new Operations page has been created. The Operations page has been changed from the previous version and includes: * a listing of experiment plans including targets. This will assist ground-based observers wanting to collaborate coordination. The goal is that pointing information will be automatically transferred from the experiment planning tools via the IAP's, to the SOHO planning tool, from which it is transferred as a text-file to the operations Web pages. * SOHO DSN schedules * list of Weekly and Monthly Planning Schedules * listing of JOPs and INTERCALs * A campaign list * Summary Data Access On Wednesday and Thursday of next week (April 10 and 11), there will be video cameras and cabling set up in the EOF meeting room. NASA Select TV will be running a program for High School students. A few computers in the EOF meeting room will also be moved closer to the camera set-up. 2. Updates to monthly plan: PTCS Adjustment moved to Sunday April 14. Maryse Hervieux presented thermal operations on the SOHO spacecraft. Operations will be done to maintain the pointing performance within the spacecraft specifications. Pointing changes (due to age, sensors) will be corrected by adjusting the duty cycle. Every 8 weeks we'll be resetting channels in the cycle. During the 8 week period, there will be daily maintenance to check relative temperature (OSR panel, FPSS plate). Operation 1 --> will occur ASAP, but no urgency. Forsees 12 hours for stabilization. Operation 2 --> every 8 weeks, grouped with station keeping maneuvers. Operation 3 --> When necessary, once or twice within 8 weeks 24 - 48 hour margins. This will be reported in daily FOT report. For more details, see S/C commissioning report and/or ask Maryse. SOHO participation in XBP minimal over Easter weekend. SUMER has pointing collaboration on April 13. SOHO will have no special operations this time on behalf of the ISTP special configuration. SOHO may run JOP003 in support of ISTP during May 10 special configuration. Helioseismology experiments are asked to respond to plan for two days of roll off-set for JOP002 and SWAN galactic map planned in May. If this upsets their investigations off-set may be reduced to one day -- if appropriate DSN support can be obtained -- or be postponed until momentum management after 2 months continuous. Coronal experiments are happy with the plan as is. -----> GOLF, VIRGO, MDI, please prepare reaction for next SPWG Final SOHO pointing. Art Poland is moderating an email discussion among PIs, but not present to summarize. MDI would like a decision by April 15th when they intend to start their structure program. VIRGO and MDI need to study the results of this weeks J3 test first. There is a clear need for pointing data for each instrument. Maryse says this a report in the pointing test. This report will be forwarded to Piet Martens for general distribution. See SOHO Operations Page for updates to monthly plan. 3. DSN schedule shows some nightime long passes, inconvenient for XBP campaign and operations in general. No SVM reserved planned, aside from the usual activities. 4. Coordinated operations: Tuesday Intercal 009 will begin at roughly 17:00 UT. DSN pass begins at 15:00 UT. LASCO, CDS and SUMER will participate. CDS and SUMER will participate in Intercal 001, duration about 3 hours, to be planned to avoid timeslot for XBP campaign. Andrzej Fludra presented plans for XBP campaign. His presentation has been forwarded separately the fot and eof distribution lists. 5. Science Timeline for this Week: All coronal experiments + MDI have submitted IAP's. Timing for XBP campaign and ICALs was narrowed down; -----> experiments will submit updated IAPs a.s.a.p. to reflect these changes. LASCO plans to perform a large upload of commands late next week. Will be done by putting a 3 second delay between commands, so that the effect on other instruments commanding will be minimized. CDS and MDI will do the same. Commanding priorities during these loads will be set at daily meetings. Weekly schedule agreed. 6. AOB: Experiments are encouraged to update their entries in anomaly database, now that commissioning is near its end. SUMER and some others reply that they will report their anomalies fully in their commissioning report, and see no need to duplicate. -----> Need SPWG or SWT discussion on how to proceed with anomaly reporting after commissioning. SPWG action item 3.4 calls "on PIs to start providing summary data routinely in April". A survey of experiments shows that: SUMER will provide files as soon as their data pipeline to archive has been completed, CDS will discuss issue internally with PI, EIT already provides data, but has internal discussion on issue, UVCS has no plans known to local reps, LASCO will provide in due time, as announded in pre-launch SOWGs, a 512X512 C1, C2, and C3 image daily, MDI will wait for calibration resulting from flat-fielding test yesterday to start delivering a daily magnetogram. Luis reminded folks that summary data is public but not citable. The data is distributed via WWW but may only be used in planning observations. Joe Gurman suggested moving that notice from the bottom of the Web page to the top of the Web page for greater visibility. Art Poland notes that SOHO Summary Data contribute to greater visibility for SOHO world-wide. SOT accepted draft agendas for daily and weekly planning meetings, with minor additions requiring ECS and data distribution status update as part of ground system status report, and decision item on VC2/VC3 transitions to be added to daily decision list. For final agendas see under operations/planning on SOHO Web pages. END-OF-FILE
