SOHO Daily Meeting Minutes for 9 Nov 1998 Presiding: J. Hollis (SOC) Notes: G. DeForest (MDI) FOT REPORT ---------- Roll angle is 3.3 degrees to ecliptic. There was a glitch involving bright star in star tracker Several command loads over the weekend... MDI continuous ended over the weekend. Ground anomalies: * TM group controller failure at D-46; 9-minute delay in handover. No TM lost. * TM loss due to line hit at D-46 on Saturday. * Recoverable 1-min. loss at D27 * Continuance of degraded data from Madrid (D-66) (data are degraded throughout the pass; the CDR playback is good.) The degraded data problem is being investigated. DSN: Very short commanding time from 16:30 - 19:00. D-27 takes over until 21:30. (D-27 is listed "D/L only" because it doesn't handle commanding well. DSS-46 pass starts late this afternoon (4:30pm local; 21:30 UT). SPACE WEATHER ------------- Another M1 or M2 flare came out of AR 8375 on Sunday. 04:20 UT 8-Nov: MTOF saw a large increase in solar wind density. INSTRUMENT REPORTS ------------------ EIT - nominal. Over the weekend, 8375 flare. The SE limb became more active over the weekend -- something's coming around. Saturday: another M flare. Filament eruption in the SW. Sunday: SE limb activity continued to grow. AR 8377 (just east of central meridian) flared. LASCO - Couldn't verify that any of the last few CMEs were halo events, except for the one Sunday morning (1998-11-08 14:30). C1 program is starting today with a 3-hour cadence, checking PZT nr. 3. UVCS - Nominal. Continuing synoptic program for the whole week. SUMER - nominal. Got flat field. Did alignment study on N pole; spicules on the S pole; Streamers on the W limb; AR reference spectra on several of the visible sunspot regions. Today: an explosive events study and more sunspot observations. CDS - nominal. Quiet sun studies over the weekend: polar regions and west limb quiet sun -- several hours of spectral atlas measurements. The rest of the weekend: quiet sun measurements on a 15 second (!) cadence to measure variability of brightness in several lines. Today: thinking about more sunspot observations. MDI - nominal. Ran in best-focus mode over the weekend. Possible flat field calibration test tonight, depending on whether the custom campaign is ready for uplink (will find out after start of business on the west coast). TRACE - not present.
