12 May 1998 SOHO Daily Meeting Minutes Chairs: Joan Hollis (SOC)/ Robert Walsh (SOL) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * The data from a telemetry gap of 02:00-04:40 UT this morning will be arriving soon. PACOR was not sending data to the EOF during that time. * A SOHO FAQ page is available on-line. You can find it off the SOHO EXPLORE! (educational & public outreach) pages at: http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/explore/ http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/explore/faq.html The pages have been written by Shane Stezelberger. This is to be considered as "work in progress" so feedback, comments and corrections are welcome. FOT Briefing ------------ Spacecraft Status: Nominal Spacecraft Anomalies: None Accomplished Activities: RSL,VIRGO, TM Subformat 6 to 5, Extra VC2 (2300-0000 UT) Planned Activities: RSL,VIRGO, Extra VC2 (1800-1900 UT) Upcoming Operations: TM Subformat changes 15 May - 5 to 4 17 May - 4 to 6 Ground Anomalies: 131/1156 TM Dropout; JPL Comm equipment problem (1 min, unrecoverable) 131/1602 Workstation 2 on Prime POCC String #2 crashed SOLAR STATUS ------------ Yesterday EIT saw a large CME at 22:00 off the W limb. Also notes the start of a loop in the NE. Sees AR 8218 as a good candidate for a JOP080 target. Yesterday LASCO's C2 images showed a small CME at 02:47 UT and a backside halo event at 21:50 UT. Today a CME was seen in the NE on a 05:27 UT C2 image. A sungrazing comet was discovered in images for May 10-11 has been named SOHO-50. Mars is showing faintly in LASCO C1 images. It is seen most easily in the FeX images. INSTRUMENT REPORTS ------------------ CDS Nominal. Supported the Mars Global Surveyer study yesterday with UVCS and JOP059 loop study. JOP059 continues today and CDS will also support JOP072 and JOP080. A web page has been set up for JOP059 at: http://orpheus.nascom.nasa.gov/~guest/ EIT Nominal. Will support JOP080 today at AR 8218. TRACE Nominal. Yesterday South Pole plume study which continues until 14:30 UT today. Have now taken 50,000 science pictures since TRACE's doors opened. Today will support JOP072 and JOP059. Today TRACE will support JOP080 with high cadence images in 195 and 171 on AR 8218 starting at 18:00 UT. Tomorrow will look at AR8219. Thursday TRACE will support the Mars Global Surveyor study. UVCS Nominal. Yesterday supported South Pole study with 1.5-2.0 Rsun images. This morning will continue synoptics and observe at a postion angle of 200 for a coronal hole study. MDI Nominal. Yesterday until this morning did full disk magnetogram and continuum images for the South Polar plume study. Currently doing high resolution 700 x 700 images centered on the MDI high resolution field of view. Then, at 17:00 UT MDI begins full disk magnetogram and velocity images which will continue through tomorrow. LASCO Synoptic continues. (see solar report above for other info).
