Schenk (EIT) DOY: 083 ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- DSN Schedule change: Friday's gap between 19:30 and 22:25 UT has been eliminated. Wallops will be used for that coverage. FOT BRIEFING ------------ Spacecraft Status: Nominal Spacecraft Anomalies: None Accomplished Activities: RSL, VIRGO, SWAN, TT VC2 Planned Activities: RSL, VIRGO, TT VC2 Upcoming Operations: 3/29 - TR MAINT/MEMORY DUMPS Ground Anomalies: 082/1335 - Degraded TM from D66; Cause unknown (5 minutes, unrecoverable; 13 minutes, recoverable) 082/1650 - TM Dropout; D66 equipment (TGC) problems (3 minutes, recoverable) 082/1905 - D24 xmtr problems (17 minutes commanding delay) SOLAR STATUS ------------ Several spots associated with active region structure in SE. C8 class flare this morning at about 11:00 UT. Bear Alert March 23,1998: The region BBSO#3960 (NOAA AR 8185) at 50E 25S at 20:30 UT presents a highly unusual appearance, with preceding polarity wrapped around a follower spot in a region where the preceding spots are weak. It appears that new flux emerged within an old decaying region. Bright H-alpha over the polarity reversal suggests a delta spot. There already has been an M1 flare and we expect moderate activity from this interesting region. Magnetograms and images of the region are available at http://www.bbso.njit.edu. INSTRUMENT STATUS ----------------- CDS: Nominal. Today: AR studies on SW limb. Mosaic SE Limb; South pole to the East limb equator Tommorow: Sunspot and Coronal hole studies. SUMER: Not observing. UVCS: Nominal. 14:00-24:00 UT, Continuing CME watch. LASCO: Nominal. Synoptic program and CME watch with UVCS using FeX and FeXIV line scans on East limb region; 14:00-24:00 UT. EIT: Nominal. Post bakeout calibrations 18:00-21:00 UT. After calibrations will continue the CME watch with UVCS and LASCO using the 195A filter until 24:00 UT 2X2 binned. Full field full resolution 195A CME Watch through the night. MDI: Nominal. Continuing continuous observations. AOB --- Charles Kankelborg will lead a discussion on how to use TRACE on Tuesday afternoon. Meet in SoHO EOF at 3:20 on Tuesday and we will go down to the TRACE EOF together.
